In early March 2019, heavy and persistent rains caused severe flooding across districts in southern Malawi. A total of 868,900 people, including an estimated 443,000 children, were affected. Damage to infrastructure and mass displacement impacted the wellbeing and welfare of children and their families. The capacity of the social welfare sector was already overstretched even before the severe flooding, but key to the emergency response is the strengthening of child protection services in emergency-affected districts especially utilizing the child protection case management approach.
How can you make a difference?
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Delivery of case management approach and achievement of planned results for children in emergency all UNICEF focus emergency affected districts through partnerships establishment, timely grants management, donor reporting and financial reporting, regular monitoring and provision of technical assistance.
Program resources mobilized through proposal and concept note development using cross sectoral integrated approaches and other innovative strategies.
Timely data collection and management of case management data with special attention to equity and gender/sex disaggregation of relevant indicators.
Effective and efficient coordination and networking of implementing partners using existing coordination structures.
Knowledge management effectively promoted through documentation of best practices, human interest stories, evidence generation, program evaluation and promoting learning amongst implementing partners in areas under program coordination.
UNICEF and UN sectoral work plan and activities formulated, implemented and reported on as required.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
Bachelor’s degree in social work, Development Studies or equivalent discipline relevant to the purpose of the position. An advanced university degree in a relevant field will be considered an asset.
Additional professional development in Child Protection will be an asset.
Two years of professional work experience in the UN or other international development organization, national government or the private sector with capacity to manage programmes involving many stakeholders. Previous hands-on experience in Child Protection programming.
Experience in child protection case management will be an added advantage. The incumbent should demonstrate knowledge in child protection, its policy and legal framework as well as other local and international related legal frameworks.
At least two years’ experience in program management at middle to senior management levels would be desirable in addition to professional proven experience in formulating concept notes, proposals and general program resource mobilization.
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of an additional UN Language is considered an asset
