Plan International global strategy adopted a human rights-based approach with focus on girls and gender equality, to impove policy and legislation, as a key driver of sustainable change in the lives of 100 million girls, their family & community.
The role of the Girls’ rights advocacy advisor is to contribute to regional level influencing in order to positioning Plan International as a go to organisation for girls’ right in the region and achieve significant improvement of policy & legal framework design, implementation and monitoring as contribution to the overall influencing work in West and Central Africa.
The regional advocacy priorities that will guide the role of the Girls’ rights advocacy advisor are Ending Child Early and Forced Marriage (CEFM)and Girls in Emergency. The role will also analyse regional opportunities and trends to advise on Plan International positioning on emerging issues related to girls’ rights.
The role of Girls rights advocacy advisor will ensure efficient coordination of regional advocacy to end CFEM in West & Central Africa (18+) and upscale our advocacy work and profile in emergencies.
S/he will also coordinate the planning and implementation of Global Campaigns providing coordination and support at Global, Regional and Country level.
The role of Girls rights advocacy advisor will strengthen and support Youth-led advocacy initiatives and capacity building
Dimensions of the Role
S/he will be expected to coordinate advocacy planning, implementation work at the regional level and support country offices in their influencing activities.
Lead on regional level advocacy work around identified priorities
Coordinate the advocacy work around ending CEFM and support the set-up of 18+center of excellence
Provide technical support for programmes design and resource mobilisation in18+ priority countries
Ensure though leadership on priority advocacy priority building evidence from our research products
Coordinate the design and implementation of advocacy plan for major emergencies and orange level alert
Engage & partner with key stakeholders to enhance our credibility on identified advocacy priorities
Connect with key stakeholders at regional level to build and/or strengthen alliances that will advance girls rights in West and Central Africa
Ensure quality representation of Plan International in relevant fora and secure space to position and influence key stakeholders
Ensure quality participation in regional technical groups, networks and forums as the champion for girls rights
Engage with regional institutions and organisations to position plan
Manage the implementation of the new Global Campaign at regional and country level
Plan and manage the delivery of the new global campaign at regional level
ensure overall coordination and communications with international, regional and country levels
Coordinate quality planning & implementation of the campaign at Country Offices of the campaign through a vibrant learning & sharing network
Mobilise stakeholders and promote the campaign at regional level
Collaborate with other members of the Influencing and partnership unit to mobilise required expertise that advance our advocacy work
Engage colleagues at country offices of the region to upscale advocacy opportunities and nurture learning and sharing across the region
Collaborate with colleagues across the organisation; specifically, the Girls 2030 programme team, the Global campaign team, the gender and inclusion working group as well as the AOGD networks (in particular LEAD).
Technical expertise, skills and knowledge
Strong knowledge of policy processes effecting the realisation of children’s’ and girl’s rights and gender equality and inclusion in West and Central Africa
Knowledge of / experience in engaging in key mechanisms to hold governments and / or institutions accountable to their development and human rights commitments
Extensive knowledge of regional context and expertise on CEFM and girls in emergencies in West and Central Africa
Strong knowledge and proven experience of diverse approaches to policy and advocacy including youth led advocacy
Understanding of working with government, institutions and / or key governance mechanisms, processes, policy making und budget allocation
Understanding of human rights reporting systems and how to use them for policy and advocacy work
Knowledge of / experience in engaging in key mechanisms to shape the agenda of multilaterals and donors
