The Svitzer Group has been awarded a 20-year contract to provide Harbour Towage Marine Services to the Tanger Med 2 Port in Morocco. The new business will start-up Q3 2018 with operations commencing late 2018.
Svitzer Tanger Med 2 has multiple positions for TUG BOAT CAPTAINS / MASTERS to command the four ASD (azimuth stern drive) 80T Bollard Pull Rastar 2900 Tugs in the Tanger Med 2 port.

In his/her absence to Svitzer Technical Superintendent.
It is the responsibility of the Tug Master to command, manage and ensure the safe and effective operation of the Vessel in accordance with:
• Relevant International Legislation and National Law.
• Industry accepted Standards & Practices.
• Client and Company Requirements and Expectations.
• Client and Company HSSE-Q Policies and Procedures
The Tug Master has overriding authority to take required action considered necessary for the safety of life, the Vessel or for the protection of the environment.
Navigation, Vessel and Crew Management
– On receiving/being relieved of command of the Vessel complete Handover and conduct an Inspection of the Vessel as required.
– The Tug Master is at all times and under all circumstances solely responsible for the safe navigation and operation of the Vessel utilising: Radar, Depth finding equipment, Charts and GPS, Navigation Aids, Magnetic and Gyro Compass, Radio and Communication devices, Watch-keeping and observation
– Plan and manage deployment and response of all Vessel and Crew resources to emergencies affecting life, assets and the environment.
– Act as Vessel manager and coordinate the assignment of Crew as required for operations, the provision of stores and ensuring readiness for operations.
– The Tug Master must read and familiarise him/herself with all existing Company Rules, Regulations, Policies and Procedures (RRPP) and updates.
– Ensure that the Vessel and all personnel, crew and any visitors/passengers, adhere to RRPP applying to the safe operation of the Vessel
– Schedule and assign watch-keeping dutie
– ensure that required PPE is worn at all times
– Institute a bridge « Night Order Book ».
– Issue « Standing Orders » on joining a vessel.
Ensure that the Vessels:
– Watertight integrity and stability is maintained (including small boats).
– Emergency steering is regularly tested.
– Navigation charts and publications are updated and corrected
– Equipment is maintained to the technical standards required by the Company.
Manage, plan, action and report in accordance with the RRPP:
– Fire and boat drills at specified intervals.
– Emergency exercises at specified intervals.
– Shipboard safety meetings held at specified intervals.
– The formal communication to Crew of any changes to RRPP
Familiarisation, Training and development of Vessel’s Crew with specific responsibility:
– Manage onboarding training and familiarisation as required by the RRPP and Company Training Plan.
– Ensure that training records are properly completed.
– Ensure that Crew Training Books are inspected, completed and maintained.
Management of Vessel’s Crew with specific responsibility:
– Manage the performance of Officers and Ratings to ensure compliance with RRPP and safe operations.
– Report and record the performance and competency of Officers and Ratings, both as part of regular Performance Reviews and when relevant e.g. immediately following serious sub-standard performance.
– Report Crew misconduct and where required participate in Disciplinary proceedings
Towage Operations, Berthing and Mooring – Plan and conduct safe Towage operations, taking into account Vessel capabilities and limitations, safe working practices and operational parameters and circumstances.
Maintenance and Repair
– Ensure that necessary and adequate maintenance and repairs to Hull and Machinery are carried out to ensure maintenance of watertight integrity and machinery reliability is maintained.
– Supervise and direct Officers and Ratings to conduct all required inspection, care, and maintenance and repair tasks including cleaning, protective coating, painting, lubrication,
